Nick came down with a 103 degree fever on Friday, so we were forced to cancel his birthday party, lest he pass along his germs to his friends. But since Grandpop had flown in from Wisconsin for the festivities, we decided to have a small family celebration instead.

It wouldn't be a birthday without the traditional cake (albeit smaller than originally planned) from
Carlo's Bakery.

The Birthday Boy perked up considerably when he saw his presents.

Although he wasn't partcularly thrilled with the idea of blowing out his candle -- and instructed us to say "Baaah!" after the
Happy Birthday song, rather than the traditional "Yay" --

... he had no trouble eating his cake.

Nick's haul included some nice new books, including this one from Janice ...

... plus a cuddly
Velveteen Rabbit ...

... a cool cash register (where he can store his "George Washingtons")...

... and a rockin' Cars track where Lightning McQueen can do his thing.

By late afternoon Nick felt up to going outside to try out his new bubble blowers.

A bubble battle quickly broke out between Aunt Bridge and Daddy.
